Taxmen's tea party
Nigeria and France have signed a tax cooperation agreement, focusing on digital transformation and sharing expertise to modernise their tax administrations.
Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has signed an MoU with France’s Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFP) to strengthen tax administration and enhance bilateral cooperation. The agreement, signed on Wednesday at the French Embassy in Abuja by FIRS chairman Zacch Adedeji and French Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier, focuses on digital transformation, workforce development, and improved collaboration on international taxation. Adedeji said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to building “stronger, more resilient and forward-looking tax administrations.” He noted that Nigeria will benefit from France’s advanced use of technology in taxpayer services and compliance, while France can draw lessons from Nigeria’s rapid digital growth and youthful, tech-driven population. The MoU also covers exchange of information, transfer pricing, and Base Erosion and Profit Sharing-related work. Adedeji added that as Nigeria transitions to the Nigeria Revenue Service, the partnership will support efforts to build a modern, innovative and globally connected tax system.
