NNPC confirms Port Harcourt refinery won’t be sold, prioritising energy security. Rehabilitation aims for 90% capacity by year-end.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has ruled out selling the Port Harcourt refinery, citing national energy security priorities. CEO Bayo Ojulari confirmed that ongoing rehabilitation efforts aim to restore 90% of production capacity by year-end. Despite earlier divestment discussions, the NNPC remains committed to ownership while exploring private-sector operational partnerships. The refinery’s revival is central to reducing fuel imports and stabilising domestic supply. Significant investment has been made, with the government prioritising operational efficiency over privatisation. The NNPC will oversee the project’s completion, reinforcing its strategic role in Nigeria’s energy sector. Further updates on progress are expected in the coming months.
